Our Mission
InsPirE mE! is pursuing a
mission to ensure that all youth have the same chances as I did and are able to use their talents to not only have a sense of self worth, confidence, and know what it is like to participate in something you love to do. It is based in New Orleans but our aim is children all over the United States. We are a very special city full of life and culture. When in New Orleans, one is exposed to various types of food, music, art, entertainment; TALENT. We breed talent in my hometown and it starts from a very young age. Unfortunately, New Orleans has a bad reputation for violence and crime, particularly amongst our youth.
A common trait I find with a lot of at risk youth is that they tend to have hidden talents or skills but no place to direct these talents. Instead they get caught up with the wrong crowd and find themselves in undesirable situations. Katrina did not help; the disastrous storm took away many of our parks, facilities, playgrounds and gyms. There is even less places for our youth to turn creating more reasons for them to get into trouble. Groups and organizations have made successful efforts to create more recreational opportunities in our city, however, people cannot participate in something they are unaware of; if they have no access to resources that can lead them to such activities they cannot become involved. I have found that too many children have no heart, no ambition, and no reason to be all that they can be. They want to sit at home and do nothing. The more I investigated the situation the more disturbing answers I found.
The main reasons children are not involved is not only due to a lack of interest. Reasons include (but are not limited to): parents who do not encourage their children to embrace their gifts, parents who are unaware of their child’s talents, lack of money to participate in extracurricular or recreational activities, lack of available programs, or a lack of transportation.
InsPirE mE! Is spreading awareness on this issue and advocates
for low cost/no cost activities. The more chances these children have to be active, productive members of society the better their chances of succeeding in living a happy life. It is both beneficial to the children as well as society. The children benefit it many ways including better health and work ethic, while they will contribute to society.
